The Waiting Game

All the shots, Doctor appointments, surgeries and procedures are all done. Yea! Now we are just waiting out the famous 2 week wait until we take a pregnancy blood test to see if it all worked!

Physically I have been pretty exhausted. Drug side effects are catching up to me and my body is trying desperately to get back to "normal" after all the changes from shots and stimulation. Just another part of this process, but I am wiped out! Add the end of the school year and all of the craziness that goes with that and that explains why my body is screaming for rest!

Thanks to those of you that are praying and hoping with us. I have not felt too anxious during this waiting time. I really can say that most days I am at peace with whatever is next. This peace is a huge blessing from the Lord and another great reason to praise the Lord for his faithfulness to me.

So we wait.

Transfer Date

We heard from the Doctor this morning. We will be having a day 5 transfer on Thursday. This means that we have a good number of nice growing embryos, so they will wait until Thursday to let them mature some more. The transfer is when they put the emryos back and then we wait.

Alfonso and I both had to take off work today on the chance that we would have the transfer today. The Doctors didn't make the call until 8:30 this morning. So now we get a day off together!! :)

The eggs are out

We had the egg retrieval this morning. Everything went well. I have been at home recovering. I've been pretty nauseous and out of it today, but that should hopefully clear up tomorrow or Monday.

The doctor was able to take out a good number of eggs. We don't know at this point how many of them are mature. Sunday we will find out how many fertilized. Alfonso and I feel encouraged and excited as we move through this process.

The eggs are ready

We saw the Doctor again today and everything looks good. I have 20 follicles growing. Not all of these will contain mature eggs, but a good number of them will.

We are ready to move on to the next phase which is the egg retrieval. Alfonso gave me my last shot tonight which will trigger the release of mature eggs from my ovaries. The egg retrieval is a surgical procedure to remove the eggs. This will take place on Saturday morning.

Please pray for a safe and successful egg retrieval.

Peace Vs. Anxiety

One of my biggest internal struggles is figuring out where my heart should be during this whole process. overall, I feel pretty positive about the whole IVF cycle. Statistics from our clinic show we have about a 59% chance of getting pregnant. Some moments, I feel encouraged by this number and other moments, I ponder the possible reality of the other 41%. There are times when I feel a great peace about everything. Then there are other times when I get restless in this waiting game and start to feel anxious.

Since we don't know what lies ahead, we are trusting in a God who does know what's next. One thing I am learning to internalize and apply is that God is good and His plans are right for me at each given moment. That's alot easier to write or say than it is to live out. This process has given me the chance to practice relinquishing control to the One who's always in control whether I acknowledge it or not. As I pray and dwell on the statistics and wonder what it means for us, God has given me a picture of what I need to focus on. The picture is of hands open and lifted up in surrender to God. Alfonso and I have made the decision to move forward with this process, but ultimately, God is the creator of life. So we wait.

All that being said, today was a really hard day for me. This is a really busy week at work, I am starting to feel physically uncomfortable and tired from the eggs growing inside, which makes me feel like something is possibly wrong, which turns into anxiety. So please pray for a supernatural peace about the unknowns as we wait. Pray that God's word would renew our minds daily as we trust Him.

They're Growing

My body responded really quickly to the stimulation drugs. After a few changes to my dose, the eggs are growing at a quick but safe pace. I have twelve follicles growing on my right ovary and six growing on my left ovary. They measure between 8-12 millimeters each. I will see the doctor again on Tuesday and we'll see where I'm at then. It's looking like my egg retrieval will be at the end of the week if things continue as they have been. We'll keep you posted.:)

We're On Our Way

Monday we started the stimulation phase of this cycle. So for the next 9 days or so, I get daily injections of gonadotropins-hormones, which stimulate my ovaries to produce multiple eggs. So the goal of the next week or so is to grow eggs to just the right size, not too small, not too big. Please pray that my body would respond well to these drugs.

What the heck is IVF?

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a process by which egg cells are fertilized by sperm outside the womb, in vitro. IVF is a major treatment in infertility when other methods of assisted reproductive technology have failed. The process involves hormonally controlling the ovulatory process, removing ova (eggs) from the woman's ovaries and letting sperm fertilize them in a fluid medium. The fertilized egg (zygote) is then transferred to the patient's uterus with the intent to establish a successful pregnancy.

Check out this link for more information about the different phases of the IVF process: http://www.txfertility.com/ivf-program/overview.html We are currently finishing up the suppression phase this week.

We're Moving Forward

After another surgery in February, consultations with one of the best reproductive endocrinologists in Central Texas and much prayer, we have decided to move forward with some fertility treatments. We are in the process of doing Invitro Fertilization (IVF).

God has been so Faithful to Alfonso and me as we have dealt with the realities of endometriosis and infertility. One thing that really sticks out to us is how God has shown His love for us through the support and prayers of our friends and family. Some days it seems like the last few years have been long and hard. On other days, I clearly see how God has carried us through the storms of chronic pain and infertility. Friends and family are definitely a part of how God has provided for us. So as we continue down this new path of IVF, we wanted to invite you to come alongside us and trust God with us for His best for our family.
